I hit that Mail bug again on iOS. Been careful since to only multiselect messages that are unread, but there’s definitely a problem with the state of the button toggle. It erroneously presented me with a Mark as Unread button.

I wish I’d had NFOViewer back at Runic. Before I went to bed, I added a global search feature. This was finicky to get working at first, but it works. The other issue I had to fix was when filtering thousands of items, I’d hit a deadlock while rendering the UI, but we debounce and stream in now.

In past support roles, I always preferred working from a Mac, but those pesky Windows System Information (*.NFO) files kept getting in the way. So tonight I built NFOViewer, a simple macOS app that opens them with zero friction.

Tonight I went through the process of bringing the classic Mac OS X app Backhoe (a terrain editor for Second Life) all the way from Objective-C and AppKit on Mac OS X 10.4 (PPC) over to Swift, Apple Silicon, modern macOS – and running on the iPad!

Anybody else notice an annoying little hitch lately when dragging and dropping files on macOS, like into Claude or a web browser drop zone?
-
It’d be real sweet if Mail got an update sometime to make marking all messages as read not suck. Twice this year I have inadvertently flagged all messages on all my accounts by mistake, usually due to some kind of UI lag bug on the iPad.

Love it. Ship it on Windows and Linux too, please. webkit.org/blog/1786…

I’ve heard that the A18 Pro is basically a tiny M1, so my hope is that the MacBook Neo pushes Apple to focus a little bit more on performance improvements to accommodate some of the older Apple Silicon out there.

A minor annoying visual bug on the iPhone lock screen in 26.3.1 (a). Should I be filing a Radar?

Do you think that someday through some combination of AirPlay and other magic, those overpowered Apple displays that have A-series processors in them might one day be able to let you walk up to any random display and keyboard setup and just magically run macOS wherever you go right off your phone?

I’m just getting around to watching the Apple at 50 event with David Pogue at the Computer History Museum. It’s super entertaining! www.youtube.com/watch

The OOBE and Windows Update experience is patently awful. I’m really not exaggerating. See for yourself: www.youtube.com/watch

A lower entry point to the Mac will increase its market share and push Apple to focus on polish. Meanwhile, the MacBook Neo has rebooted the PC war at a time where Apple has footholds everywhere: www.theverge.com/report/89…

Been trying to reduce my reliance on centralized social media for news gathering. Recently, I switched away from Reeder over to NetNewsWire, an RSS reader that’s quickly become one of my favorite apps. Has a very clean interface and is FAST to update and sync between devices.

If you’re trying to export a document from Pages on macOS, try not using the built-in PDF exporter. Instead, use File… > Print > PDF… > Save as Adobe PDF and check Smallest File Size. This may only work if you have Acrobat installed. Went from 2.6MB -> 23KB. Hell of a reduction!

MacOS 26.1 is still largely unusable on an M1 iMac, especially if you use Stage Manager. 🖥️➡️🗑️ Very disappointing. Beware if you plan to upgrade from Sequoia. Hoping for big perf fixes soon, @Apple. 🙍♂️🙏

Apple gleefully breaking shipped App Store apps. It’s still broken right now. Entirely preventable. 🤷♂️ replay.software/updates/u…

Synergy is unusable on recent versions of macOS. I’m told this is because of issues with network drivers and AirDrop/Handoff. Maybe this is true, but it worked for years with those features existing. 🤷♂️ Got fed up and picked up a trial of Duet Display. Seems better supported, but not great.

Lol there is no volume indicator when you adjust the volume via the keyboard while in a lock screen on macOS 26 Tahoe. Who is doing UX over there? 😆

I think iPadOS 26 is the biggest win of this year’s updates. The multitasking improvements really do make it a lot more like macOS. I’d like to see an option to pin the “Finder” menu to the top of the screen. Also, I want to be able to vertically scroll through all my stage manager spaces.

I’m reserving judgement about macOS 26 Tahoe, but I’ve noticed that system performance for basic things like dragging windows around can be pretty rough on M1-series Macs. I don’t have any newer machines, but I’m currently trusting that this will be resolved in 26.0.1, 26.1 or 26.2. 🤞
