So it sounds like folks have until October 14th to enroll in extended security updates for Windows 10. On one of my machines I was able to enroll in that without having to pay anything, so it’s probably worth checking to see if you qualify.

I understand what’s happening now. Running winget upgrade triggered an update of the Windows 11 Installation Assistant which noticed I was running 24H2 and not 25H2. This unexpectedly forced an upgrade on my machine as the prompts were opaque. I fucking hate Microsoft.

Got a Windows 11 Installation Assistant update notification today. I have Windows 11 already – actively running. I let it update thinking it will just grab the latest binary. Nope! It actually starts to reinstall Windows 11 while giving me no way to abort. What. The. Fuck. Microsoft! 🤬

In follow-up to my post about Windows Update. It continues to gleefully lie to me. I open up a new Settings window and see the Check for Updates button (last checked 23 mins ago). Then it’ll say “You’re up to date” (checked at 10:15pm last night). Then I check again and there’s an update! 🤦♂️

Have you ever read the first constitution of the United States? This portion of the Articles of Confederation may provide insight as to the context of the second amendment. I just think it’s interesting to note that it provides no provision at all for individual ownership of firearms. 🤷♂️

Had to go into the dungeon under the house to reset the circuit breaker today. Not a fun chore. Intensely disliked. Yeah, so I used to work at a place where we made dungeon crawlers? That doesn’t mean I actually like dungeons in which things are for real crawling around.

Synergy is unusable on recent versions of macOS. I’m told this is because of issues with network drivers and AirDrop/Handoff. Maybe this is true, but it worked for years with those features existing. 🤷♂️ Got fed up and picked up a trial of Duet Display. Seems better supported, but not great.

KOMO-TV in Seattle (a Sinclair-owned station) continues to refuse to air Jimmy Kimmel. I’ve been suspicious about this since the announcement from ABC as KOMO did not publish any reporting about it. In fact, today, they re-published a conservative blog post and treated it like their own reporting.

I think iPadOS 26 is the biggest win of this year’s updates. The multitasking improvements really do make it a lot more like macOS. I’d like to see an option to pin the “Finder” menu to the top of the screen. Also, I want to be able to vertically scroll through all my stage manager spaces.

I’m reserving judgement about macOS 26 Tahoe, but I’ve noticed that system performance for basic things like dragging windows around can be pretty rough on M1-series Macs. I don’t have any newer machines, but I’m currently trusting that this will be resolved in 26.0.1, 26.1 or 26.2. 🤞

What convinced me to change my political alignment from liberal to democratic socialist was the recognition that FDR was not simply an altruistic class traitor in a vacuum, but that he existed in the space just after the Russian revolution. The New Deal was a compromise to prevent a revolution.
