• I hit that Mail bug again on iOS. Been careful since to only multiselect messages that are unread, but there’s definitely a problem with the state of the button toggle. It erroneously presented me with a Mark as Unread button.

  • In past support roles, I always preferred working from a Mac, but those pesky Windows System Information (*.NFO) files kept getting in the way. So tonight I built NFOViewer, a simple macOS app that opens them with zero friction.

  • Fats Navarro w/ Don Lanphere www.youtube.com/watch 🎵 It blows my mind that I studied with Don and knew him a little bit. He was a musically-demanding perfectionist, but was a good guy with a kind heart. He used to tell me how much he and Charlie Parker hated Paul Desmond. 😆

  • It’d be real sweet if Mail got an update sometime to make marking all messages as read not suck. Twice this year I have inadvertently flagged all messages on all my accounts by mistake, usually due to some kind of UI lag bug on the iPad.

  • I was already into computers, so I got tapped to make a webpage to promote the CD. The obscenely long URL for which is printed on the back of the jewel case. One notable 90s quirk is that URLs often would often end in htm instead of html. I think this was because I made it on Windows 3.1!

  • When I was a kid, our 6th grade class recorded an album. My dad worked for Muzak, and was able to pull in some favors to assist with its production. The result aired nationally in every McDonald’s for a period of time. Someone’s selling a copy on eBay right now: www.ebay.com/itm/32665…

  • Been trying to reduce my reliance on centralized social media for news gathering. Recently, I switched away from Reeder over to NetNewsWire, an RSS reader that’s quickly become one of my favorite apps. Has a very clean interface and is FAST to update and sync between devices.

  • An update about my most recent post

I thought I’d provide an update to my previous posts about the attack on my house last week. Over the weekend, my friends came over and we rebuilt the stairs. While this is far outside of my scope of knowledge, I have some really wonderful friends who came through in a big way. Thank you to everyone who checked in or offered support. Those stairs are better than they were before and they are held together by friendship as much as anything else.

Yesterday a contractor came by and repaired the vandalized roof sections, support framing, and fascia boards. He did this work on an emergency basis to prevent further water damage. Gutters will be installed later in the week. This nightmare is finally ending.

In these uncertain times, coercion, duplicity, and extortion by those who would seek to exploit you are no match for the support of people – friends and family alike – who care about you.

  • This day took a real turn 😵‍💫

Got scammed today. Watch out for people who offer to fix minor problems with your house. Police report filed — apparently it’s a known scam that they have encountered recently. A $100 staircase repair quickly spired out of control into a ~$14k demand for payment and part of the roof of the house on the ground with a guy pressuring me to pay him. Beware, stay safe, and don’t talk to strangers. ❤️
